New Zealand through the eyes of a friend

By Jacqueline Nelson

New Zealand is beautiful and everyone should visit! I could stop there but that really wouldn’t do it justice. I was fortunate to meet up with Ryan and Mihaela on their adventure around the world. They picked me up in Christchurch on the South Island and we drove to the beautiful town of Kaikoura.

We did see them in the ocean though!

We did see them in the ocean though!

We stayed at a lovely house that was just a block from the ocean. With mountains to the left of us, it was the most picturesque spot to be in. The next morning we went sea kayaking and were blessed to kayak among a pod of bottle-nose dolphins. What a glorious day!

Driving though New Zealand is breath taking! When you see snow capped mountains, rolling hills full of grazing sheep, palm trees and ocean just looking out the windows of your car you are awe struck.

New Zealand is the heart of adventure. You can bungy jump,  zorb, zip line and more. We chose to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, a 19.4 km trek in Tongariro National Park. It was a beautifully sunny day, perfect for out 8 hour adventure. We parked our car at the end of the trek and caught a bus to the start. It was the most challenging trek I have ever taken but worth the view from the top and the feeling of accomplishment!

One of the other rare beauties we saw was in Waitomo. We went into one of the caves known for their glowworms. Our guide was fabulous with his knowledge and humor. It was a fun experience, I only wish is lasted longer!

I wish the whole trip lasted longer. I am so proud of Ryan and Mihaela taking this adventure to see part of our great big world. And seeing that everywhere you go there are wonderful people to meet and experiences to share. I look forward to reading about the next things they encounter! And I thank them for letting me share in a small part.

I said goodbye to them in Auckland, we spent time at the harbor and time at One Tree Hill. Mihaela and I got great Thai messages on my last day there. Very relaxing! It was a great end to a fabulous trip!
